Benches, Couches and Sofas are seating blocks from two mods. Handcrafted adds wooden benches, couches and dining benches in 11 wood types, and two metal benches. Refurbished Furniture adds a sofa in each of 16 dye colours. Right-clicking any of these blocks seats the player on an invisible seat entity. Neither mod places these blocks through worldgen, loot tables, mob drops or villager trades, so they come only from crafting.
Obtaining
Every bench, couch and sofa is crafted. The Handcrafted blocks use the ordinary crafting grid. Sofas are made at a workbench, which needs power from an electricity network to work. Recolouring a sofa is an ordinary crafting recipe and does not need a workbench.

6162Workbench · WorkbenchEach Handcrafted recipe below yields two blocks, except the metal benches:
- A wooden bench takes five planks and three slabs of the same wood.
- A dining bench takes three slabs and two planks.
- A couch takes two wool, one cushion and three planks. The wool and cushion can be of any of the 16 colours.
- A bench takes six iron bars and two iron ingots and yields one block. A frozen bench is a bench combined with a snowball.
Refurbished Furniture sofas use the workbench recipe, which takes six planks (any planks type is accepted), 16 Wheat, two white wool and one dye, and yields one sofa of that dye colour. Crafting a dye with a sofa of any colour produces a sofa of the dye's colour. This is the quickest way to change the colour of a sofa that is already built.
Sofa colours
The white sofa is the base for the other colours. The 16 sofa colours are white, orange, magenta, light blue, yellow, lime, pink, gray, light gray, cyan, purple, blue, brown, green, red and black.
Usage
Sitting
Right-clicking a bench, couch, dining bench or sofa with an empty hand seats the player on the block. The seat is an invisible entity that the player rides. It is removed when the player dismounts or when the block stops being a valid seat. On dismount, the game searches the four sides of the seat for a safe free space and places the player there.
The four seat types differ in how the view turns and where the player sits:
- Wooden benches and couches clamp the rider's rotation to within 105 degrees of the seat's facing direction.
- Dining benches have no facing, so the rider can turn freely.
- Sofas raise the rider 10 pixels (0.625 blocks) and lock the rider's yaw to the sofa's facing. Only one player can sit on a given sofa at a time.
Wooden benches and couches are modular. Their shape is computed from the neighbouring blocks (single, left, middle, right, inner or outer), so a row of them is drawn and seated as one piece of furniture.
Cushions
A couch always has a cushion. The cushion cannot be removed, and a new couch starts with a white cushion. Right-clicking a couch with a cushion of another colour changes the colour. Benches accept an optional cushion, which is added by right-clicking the bench with a cushion. Placing a new cushion returns the old one, which drops unless the player is in creative mode. Shift-right-clicking a cushioned bench removes the cushion. See Cushions and Sheets for the cushion blocks themselves.
Breaking and mining
Wooden benches, couches and dining benches have a hardness of 2 and a blast resistance of 3, and are mined fastest with an axe. Sofas have a hardness of 2 and a blast resistance of 2, and also use an axe. The metal benches have a hardness of 5 and a blast resistance of 6. A pickaxe is required to collect them, so breaking one without a pickaxe drops nothing.
Tip: Crafting wooden benches and couches yields two per craft, so the cost per block is half the listed ingredients.
