Shelves (Handcrafted) are storage furniture blocks added by Handcrafted. There is one shelf for each of the eleven wood types in the mod: Acacia, Bamboo, Birch, Cherry, Crimson, Dark Oak, Jungle, Mangrove, Oak, Spruce and Warped. Each shelf is a container with 27 slots, so it stores as much as a chest, and it can be hammered to change its look.
Shelves are a crafting-only item. They do not generate in the world, are not dropped by mobs, and are not sold by villagers. Their main use is decorative storage in a house or base, and they share the storage behaviour of the other furniture in the Furniture and Decoration set, such as Desks, Drawers and Nightstands and Kitchen Counters and Cabinets.
Obtaining
Crafting
Every shelf is crafted in a 3 by 3 grid with slabs across the top and bottom rows, planks on either side of the middle row, and a chest in the centre. The grid above shows the exact pattern for each wood type. The chest slot accepts any item in the #handcrafted:chests item tag, which also includes the common chests tag (c:chests) that other mods add items to. Any chest from another storage mod can therefore be used as the chest ingredient.
The mod adds no loot-table entries, so shelves do not appear in dungeon, village or other structure chests, and the pack's loot changes do not add them either. The only way to get a shelf is to craft it or to find one in another player's inventory.
Usage
Right-clicking a shelf opens its 27-slot inventory, which uses the same three-row chest menu as a chest. Contents are dropped when the shelf is broken or removed. Shelves emit an analog redstone signal from a comparator, and the signal strength rises with how full the inventory is, using the vanilla container formula. Shelves do not conduct redstone power, unlike vanilla planks, so a shelf does not pass redstone power through itself.
Hammer
The Hammer (Handcrafted) changes the look of a shelf. Each hammer use cycles the shelf's type property through five looks (values 1 to 5), and the hammer plays the wooden hammer sound. The hammer does not change the storage capacity. Right-clicking with a hammer in hand does not open the inventory.
Shape
A shelf also stores a shape value (single, left, middle or right). The value is computed from the shelves on either side of it, and it is recomputed whenever a neighbouring block changes, so a run of shelves forms left, middle and right shapes at its ends and inside.
Mining
Shelves are mined with an axe. They are part of the minecraft:mineable/axe block tag, and they have a hardness of 2 and a blast resistance of 3. These values are copied from the matching vanilla planks. Each shelf is stackable to 64 as an item.
Items
The table below lists one shelf for each wood type. Each shelf has the same storage, hammer and redstone behaviour described above; only the wood differs.
