Furniture and Decoration

From the Fear Nightfall wiki · Fear Nightfall

Furniture and Decoration is the group of home-furnishing content in Fear Nightfall. It is spread across roughly a dozen mods, each covering one style or one job: seating, tables, storage, kitchens, bathrooms, lighting, paintings, signs, pots and building trim. Every piece comes from a third-party add-on and keeps that mod's recipes, placement rules and in-game names.

The two largest sources are Handcrafted, which adds wooden furniture in the eleven vanilla wood types, and Refurbished Furniture, which adds powered appliances and a wider set of seats, tables and kitchen fittings. Their chairs, tables, sofas and kitchens overlap, so a player will see similar blocks from both mods. Players who want a single style should pick one set of recipes and stay with it.

The mods that add decoration without furniture are covered on their own pages, such as Accessories and Curios for worn items and Transmog Table and Player Statue for the player statue.

Seating and beds

Seats come from Handcrafted and Refurbished Furniture. Chairs and Stools covers single seats, Benches, Couches and Sofas covers benches, couches and sofas, and Cushions and Sheets covers the dyeable cushions that recolour them. Beds are covered by Fancy Beds, a set of decorative alternatives to the vanilla bed, and by Walking Bed, which is a hostile mob despite its name. A player who sees a bed in a dark structure should not assume it is safe to rest on.

Tables, counters and storage

Flat-topped surfaces are in Tables, Kitchen Counters and Cabinets and Kitchen Utensils. Storage is spread across several pages:

Some of these containers are shared under the pack's Lootr setup. Farmer's Delight cabinets, graveyard coffins and Sleepy Hollows coffins cannot be made per-player, so their contents are shared and the first player to open one takes what is inside. See Coffins and Sarcophagi and Loot and Chests.

Lighting

Lighting is the largest group of decoration in the pack. The main families are:

Powered lights and appliances need the Electricity network from Refurbished Furniture. A generator burns furnace-style fuel. Devices with no power stop working.

Walls, floors and building trim

Wall art is covered by Paintings, Fancy Painting and Picture Frames, window coverings by Blinds, and walls by Timber Frames and Daub. Hedges, Lattice Fences and Stepping Stones adds fencing and paths. Chalk adds a pale stone set that the Regions Unexplored biomes use as their surface material. Stacked Bones and Wisewood and Decorative Blocks add further decorative building blocks.

Pots, plants and signs

Pots and planters are split between Decorative Pots and Crockery from Handcrafted, Hanging Pots from Beautify, and Planters and Flower Boxes from Supplementaries. Signs come in two kinds: Canvas Signs from Farmer's Delight, which are made from canvas and wood, and Way Signs and Road Signs from Supplementaries, which are wood-specific plates.

Kitchens and bathrooms

The kitchen fittings are in Kitchen Counters and Cabinets, Kitchen Utensils and Crockery. The cooking appliances, such as the Cooking Pot, belong to Farmer's Delight and are described in Food and Cooking. Bathroom fixtures, including toilets, basins and baths, are in Sinks, Baths and Toilets. Carry On cannot pick up the fridges, freezers or baths from Refurbished Furniture, as noted on Carry On.

Entertainment and technology

Computer and Television covers the two powered entertainment blocks from Refurbished Furniture. The Workbench (Refurbished Furniture) is a powered crafting block that draws materials from its own inventory and from nearby containers.

Horror and night

Most furniture in the pack is harmless, and its seats and storage work the same at night and in every biome. Some pieces are worth knowing about:

  • Lit lamps keep hostile mobs away. A light level of 14 is the maximum for a light source, and mobs do not spawn on surfaces lit this strongly. This makes Lamps (Beautify) a practical way to clear an area.
  • A powered ceiling fan damages living entities in the box under its blades. It deals 0.5 damage per server tick, which is 10 damage per second, and has its own death message.
  • The graveyard decor from The Graveyard, including Bone Decorations, Coffins and Sarcophagi and gravestones, gives undead sites most of their dressing. Coffin contents are shared, so they are not safe to leave valuables in.
  • Walking Bed is a hostile creature with 840 health, so a bed in a dark house is not always furniture.

Pack changes and overlaps

The pack changes little in the furniture mods themselves. Handcrafted and Refurbished Furniture run with their defaults, and neither adds loot to structure chests, so their items come from crafting and creative play. Beautify is the exception. The pack corrected eleven Beautify loot tables that were written in a pre-1.21 format, and the five Botanist's House placements share one spacing and salt (see Botanist's House).

Supplementaries adds loot to vanilla-named chest tables, so its furniture-adjacent items such as quivers and bombs reach dungeon and fortress chests. See Loot and Chests for the full mapping.

Tips

  • Mixing Handcrafted and Refurbished Furniture pieces in one room is common, since their chairs and tables overlap, so choose one style per room if consistency matters.
  • Use Lamps (Beautify) or Sconces, Candle Holders and Lamps around a base to stop hostile spawns.
  • Keep valuable items out of shared containers such as coffins and cabinets. Anyone who opens one can take what is inside.
