Storage Options
Storage Options summarises every modded storage method in Fear Nightfall: the containers, bags and furniture that add inventory space beyond the vanilla chest, barrel and shulker box. The pack includes storage from Traveler's Backpack, Hexerei, Supplementaries, Handcrafted, Refurbished Furniture, Farmer's Delight, Aquaculture, Tide, Sons of Sins and The Graveyard. Each mod's containers differ in capacity, portability and restrictions, and a player choosing where to keep items needs those differences more than the names.
Storage falls into three groups. Worn or carried storage travels with the player and is limited by its equip slot or by the penalties it applies. Placed storage stays where it is built, and most of it can be picked up again only when it is empty or with its contents intact. Loot containers are found in the world and, under the pack's Lootr setup, are per-player for most structures.
Capacity comparison
The table lists the default capacity of each storage item. Config values that the server operator can change are noted in the text of each linked page.

Worn and carried storage
The backpacks of Traveler's Backpack are the largest portable storage in the pack. A worn backpack occupies the back slot, so a player wears one at a time, and its tier sets the size. Tier upgrades raise the storage, upgrade and tool slots, and the functional upgrades on Backpack Upgrades add crafting, smelting, auto-pickup and item magnetism. The mod's optional slowness penalty for carrying several backpacks is off by default.
Hexerei's Satchels are not worn. Each one fits into the satchel slot of a broom, so storage travels with the broom rather than the player. The Ender Satchel is the exception in the family: it connects the broom to the player's ender chest, so every broom with one shows the same 27 slots.
The Sack from Supplementaries is a bulk container, and it carries a cost. A carried sack that holds items adds to the player's encumbrance count, and the count sets the level of Overencumbered. The effect starts once the count passes 2 and rises to level IV at 9 or more. A placed sack with empty space below it falls like sand and damages what it lands on.
Smaller carried containers hold a specific kind of item. The Quiver stores arrows and feeds them to bows and crossbows. The Lunch Basket stores food so that a player can eat from it without filling the inventory. The Fish Satchel collects fish from pickups while it is open, and the Tackle Box holds one fishing rod and the bait, hooks and lines that go with it.
Placed storage
The Safe is the most durable container in the pack, with a blast resistance of 1200 and a hardness of 50. It holds 27 slots, is locked with a password and is built from a shulker box and a netherite ingot. Its owner setting has no effect on access in Fear Nightfall.
Coffers are a Hexerei block for keeping items in place. The Entangled Coffer shares its inventory with the other Entangled Coffers in its group, so one storage space can be kept at several locations. A Crow can be set to fill a Coffer with items it gathers or harvests.
Most furniture storage is crafted and never generates in the world. The large 27-slot blocks come from Handcrafted and Farmer's Delight, and they sit in the same furniture sets as the desks, drawers and cabinets on Furniture and Decoration. The Refurbished Furniture set adds crates, storage cabinets and jars on Storage Cabinets, Crates and Jars, and its kitchen blocks need a working power network before they can be crafted, as described on Electricity.
Graveyard urns hold 54 slots and are the largest single containers in the pack. The Graveyard's Ossuary is not a storage block at all. It is a carving station that stores no items, so it is listed here only to prevent confusion.
Loot containers
Structure chests, barrels and shulker boxes from the pack's structures are per-player under Lootr. Each player who opens one receives their own items, so storage found in the world is not used up by the first player to reach it. The list of containers that stay shared, including Graveyard urns and coffins, Farmer's Delight cabinets and Hexerei chests, is on Loot and Chests.
Backpacks and Backpack Upgrades appear in the chests of the pack's structures, including the replacement temples and strongholds from YUNG's mods. The Lootr page covers the settings that control per-player loot.
Death and keeping items
A worn backpack is kept on death when Keep Inventory is on. Otherwise it is placed as a block where the player died, or dropped as an item when there is no room, and the player is told in chat. With Curios or Accessories installed, the backpack stays in the back slot and a backup is saved. Zombies, skeletons and endermen can spawn with a backpack, and such a backpack drops only when a player kills the mob. See Death and Respawning for how the rest of the inventory is handled.
Fear Nightfall changes
Fear Nightfall adds the pack's storage loot to chests that the mods would otherwise leave out. The Traveler's Backpack and Tide loot is added to the replacement temples, fortresses and strongholds that YUNG's mods generate. The Traveler's Backpack mod only adds loot to tables whose names match vanilla exactly, so the pack mirrors those additions with the same items and chances.
The horror structures that hold much of this loot are placed about 30% closer together and weighted 6 times where they share a structure set. More Graveyard urns and ossuaries therefore appear in horror terrain. A Graveyard urn in the open is a shared container, so the first player to reach it empties it.
Tips
- Keep a Safe for valuables. It survives explosions and fire, which are common in horror biomes.
- Carry sacks only when you need them. Three filled sacks are enough to bring on Overencumbered.
- A Blank Upgrade applied to a backpack drops its contents, so empty the backpack first.
