The Fish Satchel is a utility item added by Tide that stores fish in a bundle-style container and can collect fish automatically from pickups while it is open. It is intended for long fishing sessions, where it keeps caught fish out of the normal inventory slots.
Obtaining
The Fish Satchel is crafted. Crafting is its only listed source in the mod data.
Crafting
The recipe takes four Leather and one Raw Cod. The raw cod can be replaced by any of the 105 alternative items accepted by the recipe, so the grid above lists the full set of ingredients.
Usage
Opening and closing
Right-clicking the satchel while it is held toggles its open state and plays the leather equip sound. The open state is stored on the item itself.
The tooltip reads "Right-click while held to open" and "Collects fish automatically while open". A bar under the item shows how full the satchel is. The bar is hidden while the satchel is empty.
Storage
The satchel holds up to 64 entries. Each entry holds exactly one item, so 16 cod placed into the satchel one at a time use 16 of the 64 entries. The tooltip shows the fill level as "contents / 64" and displays the stored items in a bundle-style preview.
Only fish can be stored. An item qualifies if it has the Tide fish item tag or if it has fish data, as defined by Tide Fishing. Other items are rejected.
The satchel is used with the right mouse button on an inventory slot, following the same pattern as a vanilla bundle:
| Cursor and slot state | Right-click | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Fish on the cursor, satchel in the target slot | Right-click the satchel | One fish from the cursor is inserted |
| Satchel on the cursor, fish in the target slot | Right-click the fish | One fish from the slot is inserted |
| Satchel on the cursor, empty cursor target | Right-click the satchel with an empty cursor | The first stored fish is removed to the cursor |
| Satchel in a slot, empty slot | Right-click the satchel into an empty slot | The first stored fish is placed into the slot |
Stored fish are removed in the order they were inserted. Each click moves exactly one item in either direction.
Automatic collection
While the satchel is open and is in the player's inventory, fish picked up by the player are inserted into the satchel instead of normal slots. The collection check runs on inventory adds that do not target a specific slot, which covers pickups from the ground.
Collection has two limits:
- Matching fish are only collected if the satchel has enough free entries for the whole incoming stack. If the stack is larger than the free space, the pickup goes into the normal inventory.
- Fish are inserted one at a time, up to 64 insertions per pickup.
Non-fish items are never collected. The collection check runs on every inventory add, so other mods that change inventory insertion may conflict with it.
Destruction
If a satchel item entity is destroyed, for example by fire or lava, the satchel is emptied and its stored items are dropped into the world. The stored fish are not lost with the satchel.
