The Starlight Bow is an Epic-rarity bow added by the Tide mod. Every arrow it fires is converted into a Shooting Star projectile, and each shot has a 60% chance of not consuming any ammunition. It has 750 durability and is not stackable.

Obtaining

The bow is crafted from a vanilla bow and a Shooting Starfish, without a fixed shape, so the ingredients can be placed anywhere in the grid. Crafting it unlocks the recipe advancement under the combat recipes category.

Usage

The Starlight Bow draws and charges like a vanilla bow. It accepts any arrow item as ammunition and fires it as a Shooting Star. Its charge, accuracy and critical behavior follow the normal bow rules, and a fully drawn shot that lands as a critical hit sets the projectile's critical flag.

Ammunition

Each time the bow is fired there is a 60% chance that the shot does not consume ammunition. The check runs when the arrow is drawn, and on success the bow fires a plain arrow in place of the ammo stack, so the player's arrows are left in the inventory. The remaining 40% of shots consume ammunition as normal.

Durability and enchantments

The bow has 750 durability. The Tide mod adds the Starlight Bow to the vanilla bow and durability enchantable tags, so enchantments such as Power, Punch, Flame and Unbreaking are applied through those tags. The mod also changes the bow's enchantability value from vanilla.

Shooting Star

The projectile is the tide:star_arrow entity, which extends the vanilla arrow class. It is 0.5 × 0.5 blocks in size.

  • Movement: The projectile ignores gravity. Its velocity is normalized and scaled to 1.8 blocks per tick, or 2.5 blocks per tick for a critical shot.
  • Lifetime: A Shooting Star that is in the air has a lifetime of 50 ticks. When the lifetime runs out, the projectile is removed with a particle effect.
  • Impact: The projectile is removed on its first hit with an entity or a block, and it spawns a burst of end rod particles at the point of impact.
  • Pickup: A Shooting Star cannot be picked up. It drops no item when it lands or expires, so the arrow is consumed on any hit.
  • Appearance: It leaves an end rod particle trail while flying.

Sound

Each shot plays an amethyst block resonance sound at the shooter's position, in addition to the normal bow release sound.
