The Blinds are decorative blocks added by Beautify for furnishing building interiors. There are ten variants: nine wood types (oak, spruce, birch, jungle, acacia, dark oak, crimson, warped and mangrove) and one metal variant, Iron Blinds. Each blind is a thin slat mounted on the face of a block. When open, it is lowered to cover the block space; when closed, it is raised against the top edge. Blinds have no full collision shape, do not support other blocks, and let skylight pass through them.
Blinds are not sold by villagers and are not in any structure chest loot in this pack, so every blind must be crafted.
Obtaining
Crafting
Each wood blind is crafted from 4 sticks and 2 slabs of the matching wood type, giving 1 blind. Iron Blinds are crafted from 4 sticks and 2 iron ingots, giving 2 blinds. The recipe grids are shown below.
Obtaining any blind grants the "Blinded by the lights" advancement, which is part of the Beautify progression tree.
Usage
Right-clicking a blind toggles it between open and closed, and plays the blinds-open or blinds-closed sound. The mod does not give blinds a redstone input, so they can only be toggled by hand.
Stacks and the toggle root
Blinds of the same type and facing placed one above another form a stack. With the default configuration (opensFromRoot set to true), the topmost blind of a stack is the toggle root, so right-clicking any blind in the stack toggles from the top blind.
With the default searchRadius of 6, a toggle also flips other blinds of the same type and facing:
- up to 6 blinds directly below the clicked blind;
- blinds to the left and right of the clicked blind, up to 3 blocks in each direction, each with its own stack below it.
Setting searchRadius to 0 disables this extra flipping, so only the clicked stack toggles. Blinds of different wood types never match each other, even when placed side by side.
Hidden blinds
Blinds below a stack that is raised become hidden and render no model, so the stack reads as a single blind. Breaking a blind, or having it destroyed by an explosion, makes the blind directly below it visible again. This update does not open or close that blind.
Breaking and mining
Wood blinds are mined with an axe and have a hardness of 0.4. Iron Blinds also have a hardness of 0.4 but require a pickaxe to drop. Each blind drops itself. Blinds have a blast resistance of 0.4, so explosions destroy them easily.
Fuel and smelting
Wood blinds are furnace fuel, with each unit smelting 1.5 items. Iron Blinds smelt into 1 iron nugget in 250 ticks (12.5 seconds), giving 0.1 experience. This is the only recipe that uses Iron Blinds as an input.
