Nether Expansion Effects and Enchantments
Nether Expansion Effects and Enchantments covers the status effect and the shotgun enchantments added by Jaden's Nether Expansion. The mod adds one beneficial status effect, Soul Speed, which Soul Swirls blocks apply to living entities and which makes them move faster across soul blocks. It also adds four enchantments for the mod's shotgun-style firearms, the Shotgun-Fist and the Pump-Charge Shotgun. Each enchantment changes the weapon's bullet count, fire rate, self-recoil or invulnerability frames rather than adding a flat bonus.
Effects
The mod adds one status effect that is covered on this page. Its other mob effects are immunity and deterrent effects used by its Antidotes and are not described here.

Soul Speed
Soul Speed is applied by Soul Swirls, a block that generates in the Soul Sand Valley biome of the nether. A living entity that moves into an active Soul Swirls block receives Soul Speed for 7 seconds. The duration is set by the soulSpeedDuration config option, which defaults to 7. Each Soul Swirls block re-arms 50 seconds after it activates, and the activation is shared by every entity that crosses it during that window. An activation on an entity that already has Soul Speed raises the effect's amplifier by one level, up to a maximum of level III.
At amplifier 0, Soul Speed adds 0.0405 to the movement speed attribute. Each further amplifier level adds another 0.0105, so the bonus is 0.0405 at level I, 0.0510 at level II and 0.0615 at level III. While the entity stands on a soul speed block, the effect also adds 1.0 to its movement efficiency, which cancels the slowdown from soul blocks. These blocks include the vanilla Soul Sand and Soul Soil blocks as well as the mod's soul slate, soul glass, soul path, ecto soul sand and black ice blocks. The speed bonus is removed while the entity is off those blocks and while it is flying with an elytra.
The mod disables the vanilla Soul Speed enchantment by default through the removeSoulSpeedEnchantment config option, which defaults to true. An entity whose boots carry the vanilla enchantment does not activate Soul Swirls at all, and entities in the mod's Soul Swirls exclusion tag are also ignored by the block.
Enchantments
The four enchantments apply to the mod's shotguns, the Shotgun-Fist and the Pump-Charge Shotgun. Recoil and Volley are non-treasure enchantments, so they can appear on the enchanting table and in loot. Counterforce and Longshot are treasure enchantments and are found only in loot. Volley is exclusive with the vanilla Quick Charge enchantment. Costs, weights and maximum levels are in the table below.
| Enchantment | Max level | Weight | Applies to | Slots | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Counterforce | 1 | 5 | #netherexp:enchantable/shotgun | mainhand, offhand | Reverses the pushback direction and provides I-frames when used midair during without any downwards pull |
| Longshot | 2 | 5 | #netherexp:enchantable/shotgun | mainhand, offhand | |
| Recoil | 3 | 7 | #netherexp:enchantable/shotgun | mainhand, offhand | Increases self-pushback when firing shotguns. |
| Volley | 4 | 5 | #netherexp:enchantable/shotgun | mainhand, offhand |
Counterforce
Counterforce has a maximum level of I. It applies only when the shooter is not on the ground and either has no fall distance or is in a fluid. In that case the shot pushes the shooter toward the direction they are looking rather than away from it. The shooter also receives 20 ticks of invulnerability frames, a value set by the counterforce_iframes config option. Ordinary shots add 30 ticks to the weapon's cooldown when Counterforce activates. Blank shells do not add this cooldown.
Longshot
Longshot has a maximum level of II. The mod's code declares the enchantment but does not read it anywhere, so it currently has no effect on the weapon. Its only use is as a treasure enchantment that can be obtained from loot.
Recoil
Recoil adds to the self-recoil that the shotgun applies to its user when fired. The base self-recoil is 0.35, and each level of Recoil adds 0.1, so a level III Recoil raises it to 0.65. Firing point-blank at a living target within 2.5 blocks adds a further 0.45 to the self-recoil. The Pump-Charge Shotgun also adds 0.1 for every pump it has built up.
Volley
Volley trades cooldown for bullet count. On the Shotgun-Fist each level adds 5 bullets to the base 25 and adds 15 ticks to the base cooldown of 40 ticks. On the Pump-Charge Shotgun each level adds 2 bullets per pump to the base 10 and adds 10 ticks to the base cooldown of 15 ticks. Volley is exclusive with Quick Charge, which would shorten the cooldown and reduce the bullet count. Players should choose between them according to whether they want more pellets per shot or faster follow-up shots.
