Netherite Plating and Grates are a family of building blocks added by Jaden's Nether Expansion. The family starts with the Netherite Plating item, which is crafted into the Netherite Plated Block. From there the plated block becomes cut blocks, slabs, stairs, pillars and grates, and each of these has a matching Rusty variant. Netherite Plating and every block in the family are fire resistant and stack to 64. The blocks are decorative and structural. Their main interaction with the rest of the pack is with ectoplasm, which rusts netherite blocks that touch it.
Obtaining
None of these blocks or the plating item generate naturally. They do not appear in worldgen placement, structure chests or mob drops in the pack data. They are obtained by crafting, by smelting Rusty variants in a furnace, or by ectoplasm rusting a netherite block into its Rusty form.

Furnace · Smelting · 10 s, 0.1 XPNetherite Plating needs Stridite, which the Stampede drops. A Stampede drops 1 to 5 Stridite and also sheds Stridite with a 10% chance each time it runs over an entity. The plating recipe's advancement is triggered by obtaining Stridite. The plated block, the cut blocks and the grate are then crafted from plating or from plated blocks, as shown in the table above.
The Rusty Netherite Plated Block has no crafting recipe. It is obtained only through ectoplasm rusting (see Rusting by ectoplasm below). The Rusty Cut Netherite Block, the Rusty Netherite Grate and the other Rusty cut shapes are crafted from Rusty Netherite Plated Blocks.
Smelting
Each Rusty variant can be smelted in a furnace back into its non-rusty form. Smelting takes 200 ticks (10 seconds) and gives 0.1 experience. Smelting restores the block, so a rusted build can be repaired by running its blocks through a furnace.
Usage
Hardness and resistance
All blocks in the family require a pickaxe to be harvested correctly. They have a hardness of 0.5 and a blast resistance of 0.5. The items are fire resistant, so dropped plating and blocks survive burning and lava. The plated blocks use the vanilla netherite block sound, while the grates use sounds that the mod adds for placing, breaking, stepping, hitting and falling.
Grates
Netherite Grates and Rusty Netherite Grates are transparent blocks that do not occlude. Each grate can be liquidlogged with air, water, lava or ectoplasm. A grate holding lava emits light level 15, and a grate holding ectoplasm emits light level 12. Create's fan_transparent block tag includes the grates, so Create fans pass through them.
Rusting by ectoplasm
Ectoplasm rusts the netherite blocks next to it. Whenever an ectoplasm fluid block is placed, or a neighbouring block changes, the six adjacent blocks are checked. A netherite block touching the fluid is converted to its Rusty variant and keeps its block state, such as slab type, stair facing or pillar axis. The conversion applies to the Netherite Plated Block, Cut Netherite Block, Cut Netherite Slab, Cut Netherite Stairs, Cut Netherite Pillar and Netherite Grate. Each one becomes its Rusty counterpart. The config option ectoplasmRustsNetherite controls this behaviour and is on by default.
Water next to ectoplasm does not rust. It turns into Black Ice instead. Rusting plays the ectoplasm freeze sound.
The only way to remove rust in the mod is to smelt the block in a furnace or replace it. Builds that touch ectoplasm pools will rust on contact, so keep netherite away from ectoplasm in the Soul Sand Valley, where the Ectoplasm Lake feature is generated.
Stridite and the Stampede
Stridite is the material that gates the plating recipe, so it is the first step into the whole family. The Stampede is a fire-immune mount that spawns in the Soul Sand Valley, and it is the source of Stridite. Players who want plating must defeat a Stampede or wait for one to shed Stridite as it runs over entities.
