Ether is a family of six items and blocks added by Sons of Sins for Minecraft 1.21.1 NeoForge. The family centres on Ether Ashes, a dust that drops from the mod's creatures and is stored in an Urn. Ether Ashes feed into Iron and Ether, which smelts into Soul Steel, and into Crystallized Ether, which is used for the Ether Sword and the Ether Lantern. The other members are the Ether Sword, the Ether Engine and the Ether Lantern.

Players care about Ether because the Ether Sword punishes its wielder unless the wielder carries an Ether Engine or a filled Urn, and because the ashes come mainly from the mod's horror creatures and from the blood pools that the mod adds.

Obtaining

Ether Ashes are the most common member of the family. Killing a mob with an Osseous or Sinful tool produces Ether Ashes equal to 10 percent of the victim's maximum health, rounded up. The largest drops come from specific creatures: an Ether Ghost drops 8 to 16 Ether Ashes, and a Curse drops 3 to 8. An Ether Ghost appears when a player dies in a blood pool. The Kelvin drops one Ether Engine.

Crystallized Ether is not crafted in a normal grid. It is made by a blood pool, which converts one Ether Ashes into one Crystallized Ether. See Blood Pools, Slicing and Ether Ashes for how pools pull in nearby items.

Ether Ashes also appear in the Sinful Church chest loot. About 22.7 percent of the church's chests contain them, and about 60.7 percent contain Iron and Ether.

Usage

Ether Ashes are stored in an Urn, which has nine inventory slots. Iron and Ether is made by combining Ether Ashes and iron ingots in a crafting grid. Smelting it in a furnace takes 400 ticks and gives Soul Steel, and blasting it takes 200 ticks. Both give 1 experience point. Soul Steel is the building material of the mod.

Crystallized Ether is the main crafting material for the Ether Sword and the Ether Lantern. It is also the repair ingredient for the Ether Sword.

Ether Sword

The Ether Sword is a sword with 1600 durability, 5 attack damage and 1.8 attack speed. Each hit runs a check on the wielder's inventory:

• If the wielder carries an Ether Engine, or an Urn holding at least one Ether Ashes, the hit heals the wielder by 1 to 3 health and plays a scream sound.
• When an Urn is the source of the effect, each hit has a 30 percent chance to remove 2 Ether Ashes from the Urn.
• If the wielder carries neither, the hit deals 2 to 4 magic damage to the wielder and plays a warning sound.

The Ether Sword is therefore a weapon that needs supplies. A player who uses it without an Ether Engine or a filled Urn takes damage with every hit.

Ether Engine

The Ether Engine is a single-stack item that powers the Ether artifacts of the mod. Carrying one in the inventory counts as a power source for the Ether Sword and for the Puppet of Strife. The Ether Engine is dropped by the Kelvin.

Ether Lantern

The Ether Lantern is a light source with a light level of 10. It has a hardness of 10 and a blast resistance of 1200, and it is mined with a pickaxe that is at least stone tier. It is immune to the Wither and the Ender Dragon's explosions by tag. The lantern can be placed on a floor or hung from a ceiling. It needs a solid block to support it in the direction it is placed.
