Gulber is a hostile flesh creature added by Sons of Sins. It has 40 health and deals 7 melee damage, and it can be tamed with flesh items. Gulbers are part of the mod's organ system: a Gulber drops organ food on death, can wear organ items in its armor slots, and splits into two smaller Gulbers when it dies under the Cell Division effect. Gulbers do not spawn naturally in any biome or structure, so a player meets one through the spawn egg, through a Blud trade at a blood pool, or as a result of another Gulber splitting.

Spawning

Gulbers do not spawn naturally. No biome spawn entry and no structure in the mod places them, and the only mob-driven sources are the following.

  • Spawn egg: the Gulbèr Spawn Egg summons one at the target location. The egg stacks to 64.
  • Splitting: a Gulber that dies with the Cell Division effect spawns two baby Gulbers next to it (see Drops below).
  • Blud trade: a Blud trade process at a blood pool can also summon a Gulber, which takes its armor from the Flesh Carcass used in the trade.

Does not spawn naturally in any biome (see Obtaining/Spawning text).

Behavior

Gulber is a monster that becomes tameable. Until it is tamed, it targets the nearest player within its 16-block follow range and walks toward it, leaping at the target when close. It has a movement speed of 0.3, a step height of 0.6 blocks and no armor.

Melee attack. A Gulber builds an internal counter for as long as its target is within 8 blocks. When the counter reaches 6 and the target is within 1.5 blocks, the Gulber starts a 12-tick swing. The 7-damage hit lands near the end of the swing and only reaches a target that is still within 1.75 blocks. Stepping out of range during the swing causes the hit to miss.

Ranged attack. Gulber also has a ranged attack goal that fires a projectile every 20 ticks at close range. The projectile is created with zero base damage, so this attack adds no damage on its own.

Cell Division aura. Gulbers and their organs grant Damage Resistance and the Cell Division effect to nearby creatures. A group of Gulbers keeps every member buffed while they stay close together.

Worn organ effects. Gulber applies the effects of items in its armor slots every tick:

  • A Slime Rear in any armor slot grants Cell Division for 60 ticks.
  • A Golem Cuirass in any armor slot grants Damage Resistance II for 60 ticks and cancels fall distance.
  • Other organ food in an armor slot grants its food effects at 33 percent of their normal duration.

Taming. A Gulber is tamed by feeding it a flesh item. The accepted items are Flesh of Demise and any item in the hearts, muscles or ribs tags. Each feeding has a 1-in-3 chance to tame it, and the item is used up whether or not the attempt succeeds. Feeding an owned Gulber heals it by the item's food nutrition value (4 for the organs listed in the mod's food set) when it is below maximum health.

Owner behavior. A tamed Gulber follows its owner once the owner is more than 10 blocks away and stops at 2 blocks. It attacks anything that hurts its owner and anything the owner attacks. Right-clicking it as the owner toggles the sit state. A sitting Gulber does not move, clears its target and stops fighting. It is classed as an undead creature by the undead entity tag.

Drops

A Gulber always drops one Flesh of Demise on death, even when it splits.

If it dies wearing boots, leggings or a chestplate, it also drops a Flesh Carcass. The carcass holds the worn boots, leggings and chestplate, plus a Bottle of Blood, and keeps the Gulber's custom name if it has one. The carcass appears with a 10-tick pickup delay. A Gulber wearing no boots, leggings or chestplate drops no carcass. For how the carcass and blood are used, see Blood Pools, Slicing and Ether Ashes.

Splitting. A Gulber under the Cell Division effect does not drop a carcass. It spawns two baby Gulbers beside its death position instead. The babies keep its custom name, copy its boots, leggings and chestplate, and inherit its target. If the original was tamed, the babies are tamed to the same owner. The Flesh of Demise drop still occurs.

Gulbèr

No item drops.

Variants

Gulber Organs

Gulber Organs are the hostile organ form of the Gulber. They are a monster with 10 health, 3 attack damage and a movement speed of 0.3. They have no natural spawns and cannot be tamed. Player melee cannot damage them, since the mod cancels hits from players, but projectiles and other sources still do.

Tips

  • The swing starts only when you are within 1.5 blocks. Backing beyond 1.75 blocks before the hit lands makes the swing miss.
  • Fight Gulbers away from each other when you can. Each one keeps the others under the Cell Division effect, and a buffed Gulber splits on death into two babies.
  • Feed a Gulber flesh items to tame it. Each feeding has a 1-in-3 chance, so carry a stack of Flesh of Demise.
  • Sit a tamed Gulber to keep it from wandering into a fight.
  • Smite and other undead-targeting effects apply to Gulbers because the undead entity tag includes them.
