The Blüd is a boss-type hostile monster added by the Sons of Sins mod. It has 540 health (270 hearts) and a melee attack of 30 damage. It hunts players only, fires blood projectiles at range, and can seize a player and hold them while it screams. It never despawns once it exists, so a Blüd that has been summoned or hatched stays in the world until it is killed.

Two related entities, the Blüd Trade and the Blüd Aggressive, are small fire-immune monsters that share the Blüd's name. They are covered under Blud.

Spawning

The Blüd does not spawn naturally. It has no biome spawn entries, and no structure places it or puts it in a chest, including the Sinful Church. The pack's structure changes for Sons of Sins, which place those structures closer together and with 6× weight in shared sets, therefore do not affect the Blüd. In practice it comes from a Blüd Spawn Egg, which stacks to 64, or from a summon command.

Blood pools do not spawn the Blüd. When a player or a villager walks into blood and no Blüd Trade or Blüd Aggressive is nearby, a pool produces one of those two smaller monsters instead (see Blud). See Blood Pools, Slicing and Ether Ashes for how pools work.

Does not spawn naturally in any biome (see Obtaining/Spawning text).

Behavior

The Blüd is hostile only to players. Its target selector picks the nearest player in range, and it also retaliates against anything that hurts it. It has a follow range of 128 blocks. When it has a target, it walks toward the target at speed 1.2 and breaks doors in its way. Without a target, it wanders at speed 0.4 and looks around. Its base movement speed is 0.3 and its step height is 2 blocks.

Its attacks come in two forms:

  • Melee. When the target is within 1.5 blocks and the Blüd has line of sight, it swings. The swing has a 24-tick animation and lands on the 14th tick. If the target is a player in survival or adventure mode and is within 3 blocks at that moment, the Blüd seizes the player instead of dealing the 30 damage directly. The seized player rides the Blüd and is hit by a Darkness effect for 40 ticks. The Blüd screams for 12 ticks, during which it is held in place by a heavy Slowness effect. When the scream ends, the rider takes 30 damage and is released. After a seizure, the Blüd waits 50 to 105 ticks before it can attack again.
  • Blood projectiles. At range, the Blüd fires blood projectiles that deal 11 damage each. It fires from up to 12 blocks away, with a 19-tick interval between shots, and it moves toward the target at speed 1.25 while doing so.

While it has a target, the Blüd applies Insanity to that target for 20 ticks at a time, for as long as the target is within 64 blocks (counted as a Manhattan distance). Insanity distorts the camera and fog on the client, so a player fighting the Blüd is disoriented even when the Blüd is out of reach.

The Blüd is immune to fall damage, drowning and dragon breath damage. It grants no experience. It is tagged as a sin creature and as an undead mob (see Blud).

Drops

A Blüd drops exactly one Bloody Bone and exactly one Touch of Greed. The counts are fixed at one each. The Touch of Greed is a weapon that deals 4 to 9 magic damage, and when it is used on a player who has an Urn, it pulls a Bottle of Blood from that player's inventory. See Sons of Sins Tools and Armor for the weapon.

Variants

The mod has two smaller entities that share the Blüd name. Both have 10 health (5 hearts), 5 attack damage, a speed of 0.4, a follow range of 128 blocks, and are fire immune. Both give no experience.

Blüd Trade

The Blüd Trade has an attack knockback of 0.5. A blood pool produces it when a player or villager enters the blood and no Blüd Trade or Blüd Aggressive is within one block of the pool.

Blüd Aggressive

The Blüd Aggressive has no attack knockback. It is produced by a blood pool under the same kind of condition, but the spawn check for it looks for nearby Blüd Trade and Blüd Aggressive entities in a two-block box.

Tips

The Blüd is most dangerous in open ground, where its blood projectiles can reach you from 12 blocks and the seizure can pull you in from 3 blocks. Keep walls or corners between you and the Blüd, so that its projectiles hit cover instead. Stay out of melee range unless you are ready to take the 30-damage hit, and remember that a seized player can still be killed during the scream.

Sinful tools deal four times their normal damage to sin creatures, and the Blüd is tagged as one. Effects and enchantments that target undead mobs also apply, because the Blüd is in the undead tag.

Do not use a Blüd Spawn Egg near a base unless you intend to fight to the end, since the monster does not despawn and keeps hunting players while it has a target.
