The Prowler is a hostile mob added by Sons of Sins. It is one of the sin creatures, tagged is_a_sin alongside Blud, Kelvin, Butcher, Curse, Wistiver and Walking Bed. It is a durable melee hunter with 100 health (50 hearts) and 30 attack damage per melee hit, and it pursues players across long distances. It has no natural spawning, so it appears only through a summon from an Ether Ghost or through a spawn egg. Players usually want it for its drops: every kill yields a Bloody Bone and a Hand of Riot.
Spawning
Prowlers do not spawn naturally. Their biome spawn list is empty, and the Sons of Sins natural spawn rule covers only the Betrayed Guzzler. No structure places Prowlers.
There are two ways to get one:
- Summoning from an Ether Ghost. An Ether Ghost is created when a player dies in a blood pool. Ether Ghosts come in six visual variants. A variant 0 ghost whose flesh progression reaches 1500 summons a Prowler at its own position. The summon plays a loud sound and broadcasts a server-wide message, "Someone has awaken a sin, [Dimension] is doomed...", where [Dimension] is the name of the dimension the ghost is in. Variant 0 is the only Ether Ghost variant that produces a Prowler.
- Spawn egg. The Prowler Spawn Egg (stack size 64) creates one Prowler where it is used.
Each summon creates a single Prowler. No group behavior is defined.
Does not spawn naturally in any biome (see Obtaining/Spawning text).
Behavior
The Prowler is a hostile monster with the undead tag, so vanilla effects that target undead mobs also affect it. It has no area-of-effect aura and applies no status effects.
Movement and targeting. Its movement speed is 0.3, faster than a vanilla zombie (0.23). Its follow range is 64 blocks. It targets any player within that range, and it does not need line of sight to acquire a target. It also retaliates against whatever damages it. Its knockback resistance is 0.3. It breaks doors of any kind and leaps at its target. It is never removed for being far from players, so a Prowler left alive keeps hunting.
Melee. Its melee attack deals 30 damage per hit before the target's armor is applied, with 0.2 attack knockback. It can only hit a target within about 1.5 blocks with line of sight.
Ranged attack. The Prowler also fires a projectile at its target on a 20-tick interval. The projectile has zero base damage and zero knockback, so it does not directly hurt the target.
Damage immunities. Fall damage, drowning and dragon's breath damage are all ignored. Other damage is taken normally.
Sound. Its scream animation plays a sound partway through, and it has ambient, hurt and death sounds.
Size and rewards. The Prowler is 0.8 by 1 block. It grants no experience on death.
Drops
The Prowler's loot table has two pools that each roll exactly once, so every kill drops:
- one Bloody Bone, and
- one Hand of Riot, an item whose effect makes all mobs within 8 blocks of the target switch their attention to the holder. The effect applies to other mods' hostile mobs as well as the pack's own creatures.
Neither pool uses a looting-based count function, so looting does not increase the drops. The full drop table is shown below.
| Item | Amount | Conditions |
|---|---|---|
Bloody Bone | x1.0-1.0 | |
Hand of Riot | x1.0-1.0 |
Tips
- Keep your distance until you have a plan. Its 30-damage melee hits and fast approach make it dangerous at close range, and it breaks doors to follow you.
- Its 64-block follow range means it will find you from far away. Fight it where you can retreat to a defined position rather than in an open field, where other mobs can join in.
- It does not despawn, so a Prowler you leave alive can come back to find you later. Finish it or wall it off.
- Fall and drowning damage do nothing to it, so a fall trap is not an option.
- Hand of Riot pulls the surrounding mobs onto the holder, which is useful for drawing a group away from a fight.
