Ditched is a hostile mob added by Sons of Sins. It is a melee creature with 40 health that attacks the nearest living entity it finds, and it damages everything standing next to it whether or not it is attacking. It drops nothing and gives no experience, so it is encountered for its threat rather than its rewards. Its spawn egg is the only documented way to obtain one; it does not appear naturally in the world.
Spawning
Does not spawn naturally in any biome (see Obtaining/Spawning text).
The Ditched has no natural spawn entries in any biome. It is not part of the Sinful Church loot, and it is not placed by any structure in the pack. Ditched are produced by:
- the Ditched Spawn Egg (
Ditched Spawn Egg), stackable to 64, found in the Sons of Sins: Monsters creative tab; - the
/summon sons_of_sins:ditchedcommand.
The egg is the only source documented for this mod. Other mods or spawners may place Ditched, but the pack does not.
Behavior
The Ditched has the following base attributes, taken from its entity class:
| Attribute | Value |
|---|---|
| Max health | 40 (20 hearts) |
| Attack damage | 1 |
| Movement speed | 0.3 |
| Follow range | 16 blocks |
| Step height | 0.6 blocks |
| Armor / knockback resistance | 0 |
| Hitbox | 0.5 × 1 blocks |
Melee. The mob's melee goal uses a speed multiplier of 1.6 and attacks when it is within reach of its target and has line of sight to it. Reach is computed from the hitbox widths; against a standard player this is about 0.9 blocks center to center. Each hit deals 1 damage.
Targeting. The Ditched has two targeting goals:
- It retaliates against whatever last hurt it (a hurt-by-target goal).
- It selects the nearest
LivingEntitywithin its 16-block follow range as a target, with no line-of-sight requirement. This includes players, villagers, animals and other mobs. Its target choice is therefore broader than most hostile mobs in the pack, and it will fight other mods' creatures, as well as the pack's own sin creatures.
When it has no target, it wanders at speed 0.8 and looks around at random.
Contact aura. Each tick while it is alive, the Ditched damages every other entity within 0.75 blocks of its position. The damage is 1 point per tick, attributed to the Ditched as the attacker, and it resets each affected entity's invulnerability timer to zero. A creature standing in contact therefore takes up to 20 damage per second before armour and protection reduce it, and it cannot use the usual brief invulnerability that follows a hit. Item entities and projectiles in range are affected by the call but take no visible harm. The aura does not require a target, so walking past a Ditched within that radius is enough to be hurt.
Movement toward a target. While the Ditched has a target, it turns to face the target every tick and adds a small amount of velocity along its look direction (0.15 horizontal and 0.08 vertical per tick). This makes it close distance faster than its walking speed alone would, and the vertical component gives it a small upward push.
Phases and weaknesses. The Ditched has no phases, no ranged attack and no special weakness beyond its ordinary hitbox and health. It is not in the is_a_sin entity tag, so the ×4 damage bonus of Sinful tools does not apply to it.
Drops
No item drops.
The Ditched has no loot table, so it drops nothing when killed. Its experience reward is 0.
Tips
- Keep outside 0.75 blocks. The contact aura, not its 1-damage melee hit, is the main threat. Standing adjacent costs about 20 health per second, so a player who closes to melee range without first clearing the aura's reach loses health quickly.
- Fight at range or with a barrier. Because the aura ignores targeting, a block placed between the mob and the player keeps the player out of the damage zone, while the Ditched's own melee still needs reach to hit.
- Expect collateral damage. Any mob, animal or villager near a Ditched is attacked, and the aura damages nearby entities of any kind. Keep a Ditched away from livestock, villagers and other mobs you want to keep, unless that is the intent.
- Do not rely on invulnerability frames. The aura resets invulnerability on everything it touches, so a player caught in it cannot gain the usual brief protection after a hit.
- Use it deliberately. Because it targets any living entity, a summoned Ditched can be used to pull other mobs into a fight, but it also threatens the player's own pets and villagers in the same area.
