The Soul Steel is an ingot added by Sons of Sins. It is the base material of the mod's Soul Steel block family, which covers the block itself, tiles, stairs, slabs, doors, trapdoors and chains. Players need it for a sturdy building set that resists explosions and is immune to the wither and the Ender Dragon.
Soul Steel is made from iron ingots. It is produced by smelting or blasting an Iron and Ether item in a furnace, or by dropping an iron ingot into a blood pool. It is also dropped by Kelvin, one of the mod's hostile sin creatures.

Furnace · Smelting · 20 s, 1 XP9446322Soul Steel has three non-crafting routes, all of which turn an input into one ingot:
- Furnace smelting. Iron and Ether (see Ether) smelts into Soul Steel in a furnace in 400 ticks (20 seconds), giving 1 experience.
- Blast furnace. Iron and Ether blasts into Soul Steel in 200 ticks (10 seconds), giving 1 experience. This is twice as fast as smelting.
- Blood pool. An iron ingot in a blood pool becomes one Soul Steel. Blood pools tick every 10 game ticks and pull nearby item entities into the blood, so the conversion needs no player input once the ingot is in the pool.
The Soul Steel Block can be crafted from nine ingots, and it can be crafted back into nine ingots, so the block works as a compact storage form of the ingot.

Usage
Soul Steel is a building and crafting material. The ingot has no combat or tool use of its own; its value comes from the blocks made from it:
- Soul Steel Block. Hardness 10 and blast resistance 1200. It requires a stone pickaxe or better to drop when mined, and it is mined with a pickaxe. It blocks light completely, as stone does, and has a friction value of 0.7 (stone is 0.6), which makes it slightly more slippery to walk on.
- Soul Steel Tiles, Stairs, Slab, Door, Trapdoor and Chain. These share the block's hardness of 10, blast resistance of 1200 and stone-pickaxe requirement. The door and trapdoor have the same open and powered states as their vanilla counterparts, and the chain can face along all three axes.
The Soul Steel family is tagged as wither-immune and dragon-immune. A wither cannot break these blocks, and neither can the Ender Dragon, so the family suits walls, doors and roofs in bases that must hold against bosses. The Ether Lantern is in the same immunity group and needs a stone tool to mine.
