The Explorify datapack (version 1.6.5, by bebebea_loste) adds a collection of small, vanilla-styled structures to the Overworld, the Nether and the End. It adds no items, blocks, mobs, recipes or biomes. Every addition is a structure built from vanilla jigsaw templates, with its own chest loot, and the mobs inside are vanilla ones. In Fear Nightfall, Explorify supplies fourteen structure sets, from desert shrines and farmsteads to a horror mausoleum, which give exploration a steady supply of landmarks and chests.
The mod's structures are spread thinly by the pack's Sparse Structures setting. A player will meet them occasionally rather than in every biome, and most are worth seeking out for their chests rather than for any new gameplay.
Overview
Explorify was built to make the vanilla world feel more populated without changing how it plays. Its structures follow the look of the base game: sandstone shrines, stone ruins, wood-and-cobblestone watchtowers and campsites built from the wood of their biome. The mod does not change any vanilla behaviour, and it does not add anything that a player must learn to use.
In the pack, Explorify is one of the structure mods that share the surface and underground worldgen with the rest of the pack. Its sets are weighted and spaced by the pack's configuration, and its chests are part of the pack's loot layer. For the general picture of how structures are placed, see Structures and Finding Structures and Biomes.
Content
The mod's fourteen structure sets fall into four groups, plus one set that is listed under the Taverns page.
- Ruins and monuments: the badlands pyramid, the Nether black spiral, the desert shrine, the End shipwreck, the mausoleum and the ruins. These are covered on Explorify Ruins and Monuments. The mausoleum is the horror member of this group, and it holds zombies.
- Settlements: the campsite, the dark forest settlement, the farmstead and the mangrove hut. These are covered on Explorify Settlements. The dark forest settlement has the richest chest loot of the four.
- Supply caches: a single set of seven biome-family variants, each a small enclosure built around one chest. See Supply Caches.
- Watchtowers and guide posts: three watchtower variants for plains, savanna and taiga biomes, and two guide post variants for cold and warm biomes. See Watchtowers and Guide Posts.
- Taverns: the Explorify tavern is one of the tavern structures, listed with the other tavern types on Taverns.
The mod's structures are built from the vanilla block palette, with some wood and stone taken from the biome they stand in. Most of the content is therefore recognisable as vanilla, but each structure has its own silhouette and layout. The Nether black spiral is the only Explorify structure that generates below the Overworld surface, and the End shipwreck is the only one in the End.
Mechanics
Explorify adds no custom mechanics. Its structures work the way vanilla structures work:
- Each structure set places its starts on a grid, using a spacing and a separation in chunks. The spacing is the average distance between starts in the set, and the separation is the minimum distance between two of them.
- Each structure is found only in the biomes listed in its biome tag. A structure does not appear outside those biomes, so a biome's identity largely decides which Explorify structure is possible there.
- Surface structures are placed in the surface stage of generation, and their terrain is adapted to the ground with a thin beard so that each one sits on the landscape. The Nether and End structures use the same mechanism in their own dimensions.
- Templates are processed by processor lists. The supply caches run a mossify processor that turns about one in five cobblestone blocks into mossy cobblestone. The guide posts randomise their blocks and their campfires, and the watchtowers remove some of their cobwebs at generation. Because of this, two copies of the same structure can look different.
- Chests use loot tables from the datapack or from vanilla. The mausoleum and the supply cache have their own tables, and the dark forest settlement draws on several.
Inhabitants are the only living content. The mausoleum and the ruins contain zombies, the black spiral holds blaze and hoglin spawners with piglins, the mangrove hut has a cat and a witch, and the farmstead has bees. All other sets have no mobs.
Changes to vanilla
Explorify does not change any vanilla block, item, mob or recipe. The changes it makes to the world are additions:
- New structures generate in biomes that already exist, so they add new landmarks to vanilla terrain without altering the terrain itself.
- Several structures reuse vanilla loot tables, such as the desert pyramid, the village house tables and the End city treasure table, so their chests hold items that a player already knows.
- The structures can appear beside villages. Pack rules keep them a short distance from Villages, as described in the next section.
In Fear Nightfall
The pack lists Explorify among its added structure mods, described as small, vanilla-friendly structures. The pack changes the following about it:
- Spacing. All Explorify sets use the pack's Sparse Structures scaling. The spacing and separation given on each group page are the in-game values, so the sets are rare. The supply caches and watchtowers are among the least common.
- Horror placement. The mausoleum is on the pack's horror structure list, so it is placed closer together than the mod's default. It is the Explorify structure most likely to be met at night, and it generates across many forested and taiga biomes, including the Sleepy Hollows biome and the dark forest. See Horror and Spooky Content.
- Overlap and village buffer. Surface structures from every set keep a six-chunk buffer around villages. If a smaller structure would overlap a larger one from another set, the smaller one is skipped. These rules apply to Explorify's surface structures in the same way as to the rest of the pack.
- Loot. The pack maps each mod's chest tables to a vanilla chest role, and adds modded items to those chests. Explorify's chests therefore receive extra items from other pack mods. The dark forest settlement's chests, for example, include Scrolls and onion crates. The original Explorify loot is kept. See Loot and Chests.
- Biome coverage. Explorify's structures are placed in biomes from the pack's other mods as well as in vanilla biomes. Examples include the Outback from Regions Unexplored for the badlands pyramid and the Amethyst Canyon for the ruins, so the pack's modded biomes receive Explorify structures too.
