Moog's Structures is the collective name for the Moog's Voyager, Nether and Soaring Structures mods, which together add 189 placed structure sets to the Overworld, the Nether and the sky. All three are built on the shared Moog's Structures library, which handles placement, jigsaw assembly and terrain blending. The structures are made from vanilla blocks and vanilla mobs, so they read as part of the base game rather than as foreign builds. Players meet them while exploring: camps, houses, towers, wells, fortresses and floating islands, many with loot chests and mob crews.
In Fear Nightfall the structures are a large share of the exploration content between the pack's horror sites. Most of them are not horror structures, so the pack spaces them out more than the mods' defaults. The gallows and dead trees are the exception: they are pushed closer together to suit the theme.
Overview
The three mods divide the content by dimension and region:
- Moog's Voyager Structures (
mvs, 117 structure sets) covers the Overworld. It is the largest of the three and includes gallows and dead trees among its structures. - Moog's Nether Structures (
mns, 43 structure sets) covers the Nether, including the large Mega Fortress complex and several arena structures. - Moog's Soaring Structures (
mss, 29 structure sets) covers sky islands and volcanoes, plus towers, arenas and houses placed by biome family.
The End has a companion mod, Moog's End Structures, which adds 25 structures and the End Mega Ships. It uses the same library but is not one of the three mods above.
Content
Each mod's structures are documented on their own pages. Voyager (Overworld):
- Moog's Camps
- Moog's Farms
- Moog's Houses
- Moog's Lanterns
- Moog's Market Stalls and Carts
- Moog's Ruins and Rocks
- Moog's Towers
- Moog's Trees and Log Piles
- Moog's Voyager Landmarks
- Moog's Wells and Fountains
- Moog's Floating Islands
Nether (Moog's Nether Structures):
- Moog's Nether Arenas
- Moog's Nether Bridges
- Moog's Nether Houses and Wells
- Moog's Nether Landmarks
- Moog's Nether Ruins
Sky and Overworld biome families (Moog's Soaring Structures):
End (companion mod):
The mods add no items, blocks or mob types. Structures place vanilla mobs and villagers from their own template pools, and their chests hold vanilla items. For what those chests contain, see Loot and Chests. For the structures in the pack as a whole, see Structures.
Mechanics
Placement is handled by the Moog's Structures library. Each structure belongs to a structure set with its own spacing, separation and salt (the placement seed), so the three mods' sets do not share spawn positions. When two surface structures would land close together, the pack's overlap guard (see World Generation) skips the smaller one if their footprints really overlap, and surface structures keep a 6-chunk buffer around village spots.
Structures are placed on the surface and fitted to the terrain. Terrain adaptation is set per structure: the gallows, for example, use a thin terrain fill that fits them to uneven ground. Some End structures are buried into the ground on purpose, as described under End Mega Ships.
Each mod restricts its structures to particular biomes:
- Voyager places most structures in the Overworld biome tags. Some are keyed to the dark forest or to a biome's primary wood type (cherry, crimson or mangrove). The gallows can spawn in any overworld biome.
- Nether places its structures in Nether biomes, with separate groups for Nether Wastes, Soul Sand Valley, Crimson Forest and Warped Forest.
- Soaring groups its structures by biome family: desert, red sand, cold, snowy, taiga, birch, jungle, cherry, swamp, mangrove, mountain, badlands, ocean, mushroom island and general overworld biomes.
Structures have their own loot tables. Overworld houses use common, uncommon and rare tables, and the ocean and red tower sets have separate treasure tables. The Nether chest tables include Ancient Debris, Netherite Scrap and enchanted golden apples, and the Overworld treasure tables include Diamond, Emerald and tridents.
Changes to vanilla
The three mods change no vanilla data. They add structure sets, structures, template pools, loot tables and biome tags under their own namespaces (mvs, mns, mss), and no jar overrides a vanilla or NeoForge data file. Vanilla structures keep their own placement, so the Moog's structures appear alongside them rather than replacing them.
In Fear Nightfall
The pack ships Moog's Structures library 3.4.2, which meets the minimum version of all three mods (3.0.0 for Voyager and Soaring, 3.3.0 for Nether). The companion Moog's End Structures needs library 1.1.0 or newer, which is also met.
The pack's Sparse Structures setup sets the spacing of each structure set. Across a 26 km² sample, the non-horror structures in the pack were placed about three times less often than with the mods' defaults. The Moog's structures count as non-horror except for the gallows and dead trees, which the pack lists among its horror structures. Those are placed about 30% closer together, and where they share a set with other structures they receive 6× weight. Horror biomes (see Biomes and Horror and Spooky Content) are weighted 6× as well, and the pack's horror biomes are concentrated in humid forests, taigas and swamps.
Chests in Moog's structures are covered by the pack's chest mapping (see Loot and Chests). The pack maps each structure-mod chest table to the vanilla chest it plays the role of, keeps the original loot, and adds loot from other mods on top. For how the pack's structures are found in the world, see Finding Structures and Biomes.
