Villagers
Villagers are the vanilla townsfolk that live in the Overworld's village structures. In Fear Nightfall they are the link between several parts of the pack: the village set is merged from six or more village mods, villagers take part in the horror mechanics of The Hordes and The Graveyard, and the pack's additions to trading, farming and golems all centre on them. A player cares about villagers mainly for their trades, for the new professions and golems that the pack places in villages, and for the threat that undead, Mutant Zombies and the infection system pose to them.
Villagers are not a separate mod's content. Their behaviour is the vanilla behaviour, with changes from several mods. This page summarises those changes and links to the page that holds each system's full detail.
Village structures
Villages are a shared structure set. The vanilla minecraft:villages set holds Overhauled Villages, Luki's Grand Capitals, Towns and Towers Villages, Villages&Pillages and the Dungeons and Taverns villages, plus the Fortified Villages from Terralith. Each location gets one village type, so the mods replace one another's placements instead of stacking on the same ground. The overview of this set is on the Villages page.
Each village type brings its own look and population:
- Overhauled Villages (from ChoiceTheorem's Overhauled Village) uses biome-themed layouts, so a desert, jungle or swamp village has different houses and palettes.
- Luki's Grand Capitals adds rebuilt villages that sit alongside the vanilla ones rather than replacing them.
- Towns and Towers Villages adds a further village set, and the same mod adds Pillager Outposts.
- Villages&Pillages adds a witch village in swamp biomes. Its population is witches and cats, not villagers.
Each village type is weighted equally within the set, so a player should expect a mix of styles across the map.
Professions and trades
Villagers keep vanilla job sites and levels. The pack adds to them in three ways:
| Addition | Mod | Page |
|---|---|---|
| Botanist profession, sold from a workbench | Beautify | Botanist (villager) |
| Botanist houses in five village biome types | Beautify | Botanist's House |
| Priest, a neutral Holy-school support caster, placed in plains and taiga village houses | Iron's Spells | Priest |
| Extra trades for existing professions and the wandering trader | Several | Villager Trades |
The Botanist is the only new villager profession in the pack. The Priest offers four trades: two healing-potion trades, a furled map to the Evoker Fort and a Villager Spell Book. Its full trade list is on its own page. Priest houses compete with other village houses for slots, so they are uncommon in heavily modded villages.
Golems in villages
Villages can produce two golems from Golem Overhaul alongside the vanilla iron golem. The Barrel Golem trades items and the Hay Golem guards farmland. Both are placed by the village's golem spawn piece and neither spawns in the wild. The Golem Construction page lists the other ways the mod makes golems, including a carved pumpkin that can produce a Hay Golem.
Night dangers
Villagers can be infected by the undead, and the mechanics of The Hordes apply to them as they do to other infectable mobs.
- Infection. A villager is infectable, with a base chance of 0.15 that is lowered further by armour on the victim's side. An infected villager becomes a zombie villager when it dies. Infection rules are on Zombie Infection.
- Zombie villager cures. The Hordes disables curing by default. The pack turns it on, but accepts only golden apples and enchanted golden apples as cures, so a zombie villager cannot be cured with any item.
- Horde waves. Timed waves from Horde Nights are sent at individual players and are separate from the infection system.
- Mutant Zombies. A Mutant Zombie attacks villagers and iron golems. Villagers and wandering traders keep away from it.
The Infected Zombie and Player Zombies pages cover the other infection outcomes.
The Graveyard
Villagers flee hostile The Graveyard mobs. A villager keeps a 10-block avoidance goal and moves at speed 0.7 to 1.0, and a wandering trader does the same at speed 0.5.
Villagers are also the source of the blood needed for the Lich. Killing a villager with the Bone Dagger while holding a glass bottle in the offhand fills a Vial of Blood, which must reach 0.8 blood before it can summon the Lich. Each kill adds 0.1 blood, up to 0.9. The full chain is on Corruption, Vial of Blood and Summoning the Lich.
Crows
Crows from Hexerei can pickpocket villagers. A crow in Pickpocket mode robs any villager in range each time its cooldown ends, which is 1800 ticks by default. Crows in Help mode should be kept away from villagers that a player wants left alone. The crow page covers the commands and modes.
Naughtiness
Born in Chaos keeps a hidden naughtiness score that rises when players kill villagers. In Fear Nightfall the mechanic is switched off, so killing villagers has no effect on the score, no warnings occur and Krampus does not spawn from it. The mod's rules are on Naughtiness and Krampus.
Farming and food
Villagers in the pack want more foods than vanilla villagers. Farmer's Delight adds Cabbage, Tomato, Onion, Rice and two seeds to the items villagers want, and the same crops give them food points, which affects breeding. Villagers also treat Rich Soil farmland as farmland. The crops are described on Farming and Crops and Wild Crops and Crates.
