Controls and Keybinds
Controls and Keybinds are the inputs that Fear Nightfall's mods add on top of vanilla Minecraft: extra keys, sneak-based actions and hold-to-use mouse actions. Most of them do not appear in the vanilla controls list, and several share a key with another mod. The pack has already moved four default keys to remove clashes, so the defaults below are the pack's, not the mods' original defaults where the two differ.
Each mod's own page explains what its controls do. This page lists the keys, the action each one triggers and the places where the same input does more than one thing. Every key can be changed in the game's controls options.
Default bindings
| Key | Action | Mod | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hold right-click with a rod | Charge a fishing cast | Tide | The charge takes 25 ticks. The holdToCast option is on by default. |
| Sneak (Shift) | Pick up and carry a block or entity | Carry On | Carry On is unbound on NeoForge, so sneak is the carry input. Amecs API changes the default. |
| H | Open the Accessories screen | Accessories | Category "Accessories". |
| G | Open the Curios inventory | Curios | Category "Curios". G is also the Hexerei broom activate key, which the pack's conflict check did not flag. |
| O (mod default U) | Open the death history | Corpse | The pack binds O. /deathhistory opens the same list. |
| B | Open the backpack | Traveler's Backpack | |
| Z | Cycle the backpack's tool slots into the hotbar | Traveler's Backpack | Z is also the Hexerei glasses zoom key. |
| Unbound | Sort backpack, toggle a worn ability, toggle upgrades 1 to 4 | Traveler's Backpack | Bind these in the controls options if wanted. |
| R | Open the spell wheel | Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks | |
| V | Spellbook cast | Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks | |
| Left Alt | Spell bar modifier | Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks | |
| Unbound | Spell wheel toggle and quick cast 1 to 15 | Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks | Bind these if the spell bar is not enough. |
| J (mod default V) | Keep the quiver overlay open | Supplementaries | The overlay stays open while the key is held. |
| Space | Broom up | Hexerei | |
| Ctrl | Broom down | Hexerei | |
| Shift | Broom dismount | Hexerei | |
| G | Broom activate | Hexerei | |
| Z | Glasses zoom | Hexerei | |
| Y (mod default R) | Show a recipe while hovering over an item in the book | Hexerei | |
| U | Show uses while hovering over an item in the book | Hexerei | |
. (period) (mod default R) |
Summon a Netherite Golem | Golem Overhaul | Works only while the player is riding a Netherite Golem. |
| C | Wear the Evoker, Pillager or Vindicator mask | Butchery | All three mask keys share C. |
| Left-click (attack) | Flip a skillet that is in use | Farmer's Delight | The flip takes 12 ticks. |
| Sneak with an empty hand | Reel in a rope | Farmer's Delight | Reeling is enabled by default. |
Sneak and other shared inputs
Sneak is the most heavily used input in the pack. The same key does different things depending on what the player is holding or looking at:
- Carry On: holding sneak while right-clicking a valid target picks it up. Right-clicking a free space with a carried object sets it down. See Carry On.
- Accessories: the default
MUST_NOT_CROUCHsetting means a right-click without sneaking equips an eligible item, so sneaking blocks equip-from-use. Shift-right-clicking an armour stand equips or swaps an item on it. See Accessories and Curios. - Quiver: shift and right-click cycle the selected arrow slot. See Quiver.
- Skillet: sneak and right-click places the skillet as a block. See Skillet.
- Broom: a rider dismounts with Shift, and a crouching player can open a placed broom's inventory by right-clicking it. See Brooms.
- Rope: sneaking with an empty hand reels the rope back up. See Rope.
The pack's conflict check found 20 clashes between bindings with all mods loaded. The four changes described below removed five mod-versus-mod clashes, and 15 remain. Most of the remaining ones are intentional, such as the three Butchery mask keys on C, and the broom controls, which reuse Shift, Space and Ctrl for flight.
Changed defaults
The pack changes these four default keys to remove clashes:
| Control | Mod default | Pack default | Clash it removes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quiver overlay | V | J | Spellbook cast (V) |
| Corpse death history | U | O | JEI's show-uses key (U) |
| Netherite Golem summon | R | . |
Spell wheel and JEI (R) |
| Hexerei book recipe key | R | Y | Spell wheel (R) |
Players who rebind these keys should keep these values in mind when they reset their controls.
Where each control is described
- Magic: Spellcasting, Spell Books, Scrolls and Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks. Holding right-click on a casting implement also starts a spell.
- Fishing: Tide Fishing for the cast charge and reel minigame, Fishing Rods for the rods that use it, and Fishing Journal and Fishy Notes.
- Storage and wearables: Traveler's Backpack, Backpacks, Backpack Upgrades and Sleeping Bags. The Quiver and Sack are the other two storage items with keyed or sneak actions.
- Death and item recovery: Corpse for the death history and corpse pickup, Death and Respawning for the rules behind it, and Carry On for carrying items after death.
- Accessories: Accessories and Curios for the screen and slot keys, and Accessory Items for the items that use them.
- Travel: Brooms for the broom keys, Grappling Hook for its use, and Mounts and Transportation for the other ways to move.
- Cooking: Skillet for the flip and cook keys, and Rope for reeling.
- Golems and butchery: Golem Overhaul for the summon key and Butchery for the mask keys.
- Commands: Gamerules and Commands for the operator commands that open the same screens as the keys.
Tips
- Check the controls options after a new mod is installed. Mods add their key categories there, and a clash only shows up once both mods are loaded.
- While carrying with Carry On, the hotbar is locked to the carry slot, so number keys do nothing until the item is set down.
- If a key does nothing, look for a sneak variant of the same action in the list above, since many actions switch on sneak.
