Accessory Items
The Accessory Items are the wearable pieces in Fear Nightfall that go into accessory and Curios slots rather than the armor, hand or hotbar slots. They are added by several mods, including Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks, Charm of Undying, Traveler's Backpack, Supplementaries, Hexerei, Critters and Companions, Tide, Butchery and Immersive Lanterns. A player cares about them because most of the pack's utility and protection that is not armor comes from these slots: extra mana and spell power, protection from fire, freezing and poison, a second life from a totem, storage on the back, and ammunition at the belt.
The slots are provided by Accessories and Curios. Each mod that adds wearable content registers its items against a slot type, so an item only fits the slot it was designed for. The sections below group the items by slot. Each item's full stats, recipes and loot are on its own page, and the generated tables on those pages are not repeated here.
Slots and how they are used
The pack keeps the default slot list of both accessory APIs but adds no slots of its own. The accessory slots appear through buttons on the vanilla inventory and creative screens rather than a separate screen. The pack keeps the default equip-from-use setting, so sneaking is not needed to equip. A worn item gives its bonus only while it is in its slot, and the bonus is removed when the item leaves the slot.
Curios items follow the server's keepInventory gamerule. Accessory and Curios items were also tested with the Corpse mod, which stores them with the rest of the death inventory. With the Curios or Accessories integration, a Traveler's Backpack stays in its back slot and a backup can be restored. Details of the death rules are on Death and Respawning.
Necklace slot
The necklace slot is the most crowded. Several item families use it:
- Rings, amulets and charms from Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks. Necklaces, amulets and charms such as the Heavy Chain and the Teleportation Amulet use this slot, and rings use the two ring slots. The full list, with effects and cooldowns, is on Rings, Amulets and Charms.
- Pearl Necklace from Critters and Companions. It has three levels. Each level adds 20% to base swim speed and reduces the detection range of Drowned by 10% per level, and the Guardian detection reduction applies from level II. See Critters and Companions for the crafting recipes.
- Stray Necklace from Butchery Armor. It gives no armor. While it is worn, a freeze counter above 1 is reset, so the wearer does not stay frozen.
Spell book slot
Spell Books are worn in the spellbook slot of the Curios inventory, and a spell book cannot go in the generic slot. A worn book holds the spells that the player casts. Spellcasting is covered on Spellcasting.
Charm slot
The Charm of Undying mod lets a vanilla
Totem of Undying worn in the charm slot protect the player from death. The worn totem is checked before a totem held in a hand, and it is rendered on the player's body. The mod also adds ring and necklace slot types to every player, but these do nothing on their own. Other items in the charm slot are not part of the pack. The Charms added by Born in Chaos are not worn. They are used from the inventory, and each use consumes an Ethereal Spirit, so they are covered on their own page.
Back slot
Backpacks from Traveler's Backpack are worn in the back slot. Only one backpack can be worn at a time, and the variants are listed on Backpacks. Several variants give a passive bonus while worn, and one of them, the Creeper backpack, can save the wearer from a lethal blow. Storage and upgrades are covered on Backpack Upgrades.
Belt slot
Two items use the belt slot:
- The Quiver from Supplementaries stores stacks of arrows and feeds them to bows and crossbows. It is rare, does not stack, and holds 6 arrow slots by default. Its loot and ammunition priority are on Quiver.
- The vanilla
lantern and soul lantern can be worn on the belt through Immersive Lanterns. A worn lantern hangs from the hip and gives light level 15 on clients that run the Sodium Dynamic Lights part of the mod. The mod runs on the server only in Fear Nightfall.
Head slot
The Reading Glasses from Hexerei are worn in the head slot. They can also be held and used like a spyglass, and the Glasses Zoom key toggles the zoom while they are worn. The item is described on Hexerei Miscellaneous.
Informational slot
The Fishing Gadgets from Tide are the Climate Gauge, Depth Meter, Weather Radio, Lunar Calendar and Fish Finder. Each one displays a HUD overlay while it is held or while it is worn in the informational Curios slot. They are covered on Fishing Gadgets.
Fear Nightfall changes
- The Traveler's Backpack loot is copied into the chests of the replacement temples, fortresses and strongholds from the YUNG mods, because the mod only adds loot to vanilla table names. See Changes to Vanilla for the full list of loot changes.
- The Curios slot list is empty in the pack, so every accessory slot comes from a mod that adds it.
- Immersive Lanterns runs on the server only. Clients can join without it.
- The Charm of Undying settings keep the worn totem visible to other players.
- A key conflict between the quiver and another mod was resolved by giving the quiver the default J key.
- Fear Nightfall places quivers in the chests of its Illager Hideout and Manor structures. The Catacombs hold Spell Books, and the Frostward Ring has its highest chest chance, 14.3%, in the ice barrel of the Impaled Icebreaker.
Tips
- Curios or Accessories must be present for the items above to be worn. Without either, a backpack goes through the back slot button in the inventory instead.
- Protective rings such as the Fireward Ring and the Poisonward Ring are worth keeping in the ring slots during fights in horror biomes, where the pack's hostile spellcasters are common. See Rings, Amulets and Charms for the full list.
- A Totem of Undying in the charm slot is used before a totem in a hand. The held totem is not used up while the charm slot's totem protects the player.
