Prickly Peach is a food item added by YUNG's Cave Biomes. It grows as fruit on the Prickly Peach Cactus, a plant that generates on Ancient Sand in the underground Lost Caves biome. Eating a Prickly Peach restores food but deals cactus damage to the eater. The fruit is also the food source of the Sand Snapper, which eats the fruit directly from the cactus.
Obtaining
The Prickly Peach is not added to any chest loot table, mob drop, villager trade or crafting recipe in the mod's data. It is only obtained by harvesting fruit from a Prickly Peach Cactus.
Fruit develops as follows:
- A cactus ages from 0 to 25. Each random tick has a 50% chance to advance its age by one.
- When the age advances, the cactus grows fruit with a 10% chance. At age 25 the fruit is always grown, and a cactus that already has fruit does not age further.
- Bone meal on a cactus without fruit sets its age to 25 and grows fruit immediately.
Harvesting is done by right-clicking a fruiting cactus. This drops one Prickly Peach, does not damage the player, and resets the cactus to age 0 without fruit. Breaking a fruiting cactus drops the cactus block and one additional Prickly Peach.
The Lost Caves biome places a prickly peach cactus patch with a count of 30. The patch makes up to 13 placement attempts within 7 blocks horizontally and 5 blocks vertically of a point. A cactus is only placed on Ancient Sand, not beside another cactus, and not where three or more horizontal neighbours are solid. Up to four cacti are placed per patch, and each one starts with fruit with a 40% chance.
In Fear Nightfall, Lost Caves is one of the YUNG's cave biomes placed by the pack's custom biome distribution table, which gives eligible biomes a share of each climate cell by weight. The Prickly Peach has no pack-specific changes of its own.
Usage
Eating
Eating a Prickly Peach restores 4 hunger points with 2.4 saturation. The eater takes 1.0 cactus damage (half a heart) when the item is consumed. Eating a Prickly Peach grants the advancement "The Snack That Bites Back". The item can also be composted, with a 65% chance of adding a compost level.
Prickly Peach Cactus behaviour
- The cactus survives only when the block below it is in the sand block tag. Ancient Sand is in this tag. If the block below is removed, the cactus breaks and drops.
- Any entity other than a Sand Snapper takes 1.0 cactus damage while it is inside the cactus's space.
- A player who right-clicks a cactus with an empty main hand and no fruit takes 1.0 cactus damage and gets the advancement "Please Do Not Touch The Cactus".
- Mobs path around the cactus, which is not pathfindable.
Sand Snapper
The Sand Snapper is immune to the cactus's damage. It eats only fruiting cacti. After it eats, it heals 4 health and cannot eat again for 6000 ticks (5 minutes). If a player interrupts its meal, the cooldown is shortened to 200 ticks. For 3600 ticks (3 minutes) after feeding, the Sand Snapper is friendly to players.
Items
- Prickly Peach Cactus is the block that grows the fruit. A potted variant is also added.
- Prickly Vines are a separate climbable block that generates in Lost Caves. Entities that move through them quickly take 1.0 damage, which uses a separate prickly vines damage type. The check applies when an entity moves at or above 0.003 blocks per tick horizontally. Foxes, bees and Sand Snappers are exempt. The vines can be composted, with a 50% chance.
- Prickly Peach is the food item described above.
