The Witch Circle is a surface ruin added by YUNG's Better Witch Huts. It is a small ring of stone brick and cobblestone that generates only in swamp biomes, and each one holds a witch and a cat. In Fear Nightfall it is one of the horror structures of the swamps, and its brewing stands hold potions that a player can take.
Generation
The Witch Circle generates in the Overworld, only in Willow Swamp and the vanilla swamp biome. Unlike the witch huts, it does not generate in mangrove swamps.
Placement uses a random-spread structure set with an in-game spacing of 28 chunks, versus the mod default of about 40, and a separation of 7 chunks. The observed density is about one circle per 26 km² (see the infobox). Other swamp structures compete for the same ground, including the Hexerei Witch Hut.
The circle sits on the surface. Its processors extend stone brick straight down through air and fluid to the first solid block, so a circle placed over uneven or wet ground is supported by a column of stone brick rather than floating. Fear Nightfall lists the Witch Circle among its horror structures.
Layout
Each circle uses a single template, typically 9 by 5 by 9 blocks, with no rooms or floors. The template is built from stone bricks, cobblestone, potted plants and a brewing stand, and the processors weather it at generation time:
- Stone bricks become mossy stone bricks with a 60% chance, or cracked stone bricks with a 10% chance.
- Cobblestone becomes mossy cobblestone with a 60% chance, or coarse dirt with a 10% chance.
- Stone brick stairs become mossy stone brick stairs with a 60% chance.
- Potted red mushrooms are replaced at random: potted brown mushroom 20%, and potted cornflower, potted cactus, potted dead bush, potted fern and potted azalea 10% each. The rest stay as potted red mushrooms.
The circle uses the same processor list as the witch huts, so its brewing stand is filled the same way (see Witch Circle).
Inhabitants
Each circle places one witch and one cat through its spawn overrides. The witch is a monster-category spawn and the cat is a creature-category spawn, each with a minimum and maximum of one per structure piece. Both spawn only within the piece's bounding box. Cats in circles spawn black, as cats in vanilla swamp huts do.
The witch is hostile. It attacks a player who approaches and throws harmful potions. The cat is passive.
Loot
The circle's loot comes from its brewing stand. The stand is filled with potions when the structure generates:
- The ingredient and potion pairing is chosen at random from five recipes: glistering melon slice to healing, sugar to swiftness, pufferfish to water breathing, golden carrot to night vision, and phantom membrane to slow falling.
- The input slot holds 2 to 5 of the ingredient.
- One potion is always placed in the first potion slot. A second potion has a 50% chance of appearing in one of the other two potion slots.
See Potions and Brewing for how these potions are used. The table below lists any chest loot that the circle's template contains.
Biomes (2): Willow Swamp, Swamp
Mobs placed in the structure: Cat, Witch
Tips
Fight the witch at range, or lure it away from the ring, since it throws potions at close range and at distance. Take the potions from the brewing stand before leaving, because the stand is the circle's only confirmed source of loot. The potions in the stand include night vision and water breathing, which help when exploring a swamp at night.
